According to Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, this cooperation has actually been done for quite a long time.
This collaboration begins with the interest of the Suriname government to study curriculum of trainings for diplomats and establish educational institutions for diplomats.
"After the institution was established, they proposed collaboration with the diplomat training center of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to train Surinamese diplomats," Foreign Minister Retno said after meeting her Surinamese counterpart Yldiz Deborah Pollack-Beighle here Thursday.
In addition to cooperation in education, the two foreign ministers also discussed the development of cooperation in the economic field.
Suriname expects Indonesian investment for infrastructure development projects in the country.
Meanwhile, Indonesia asked Suriname`s support in approaching the Community of Caribbean Countries (CARICOM).
The establishment of a free trade agreement between Indonesia and CARICOM will use Suriname as a center of activity in the CARICOM region.
In addition to meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Suriname, Foreign Minister Retno also held bilateral meetings with representatives of seven other countries namely Australia, Papua New Guinea, Venezuela, Italy, New Zealand, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam on the sidelines of the 2018 BDF.
