"First, we want to equalize the perception that Industry 4.0 is something that cannot be avoided," Chairman of the Indonesian Businesses Association (APINDO), Hariyadi B. Sukamdani, stated here on Monday, adding that it should be properly managed and anticipated.
"Second, efficiency becomes a main goal; therefore, we have to improve competitiveness," he noted.
According to Sukamdani, efficiency can be realized well if businesses and industries are able to implement Industry 4.0.
Industry 4.0 refers to the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. The Industry 4.0 applies cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things (IoT), cloud computing, and cognitive computing.
"Third, we hope we can establish Digital Capability Center in Indonesia," Sukamdani explained, adding that the center plays an important role in helping companies to pass the transformation process towards the Industry 4.0 more systematically.
More than 100 company leaders participated in the CEO Forum, held by McKinsey & Company in collaboration with APINDO, under the title "CEO Forum: Embracing Industry 4.0."
Sukamdani emphasized the importance of industry leaders to unite to exchange ideas and share best practices with regard to the application of Industry 4.0.
"Industry 4.0 requires companies to transform in order to achieve business goals and operational cost efficiency, and increase production volumes," he added.
According to Sukamdani, this transformation requires not only the right technology but also bipartite and tripartite partnerships that focus on the exchange of knowledge about new forms of industrial relations.
"If the manufacturing sector successful in implementing Industry 4.0, it will be able to play its role as an important sector in supporting the national economy," he revealed.
