Communications and informatics Minister Rudiantara said that the development of high-speed internet throughout Indonesia has made e-commerce in the country more trusted as it was safe and comfortable for a number of transactions.
"Our marketplace empowers MSMEs. With the facilities offered, around 6.5 million MSMEs have moved online in the past two years," Rudiantara stated in his official Twitter account here on Wednesday.
This Wednesday, the community welcomed the seventh annual National Online Shopping Day, better known as Harbolnas, marked by annual activities organized by various e-commerce actors in Indonesia, such as retail and consumer goods companies, telecommunications, and financial companies.
Indonesian netizens were enthusiastic to welcome Harbolnas, among others, with various attractive discounts from business people, especially online businesses.
The #Harbolnas2018 and #Harbolnas1212 has become a trending topic on Twitter.
The minister noted that MSMEs could prioritize their own products and services.
"In this case, we should support MSMEs by choosing local products in Harbolnas," the minister explained.
President Joko Widodo fully supported e-commerce activities that are much in demand by young people.
The government has prepared infrastructures for logistics. Toll roads, both in sea and land, as well as ports will connect all islands in Indonesia to facilitate logistics activities.
According to data of Communications and Information Ministry, around 4.7 million MSME units have gone online.
Meanwhile, e-commerce road maps also connect all regions with the internet network.
Indonesia`s demographics, dominated by the tech-savvy generation or those well-informed about using modern technology especially computers, have a vital role in enhancing digital economic development, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati earlier remarked.
The minister added that in order to support digital economics, the government is currently building satellites to strengthen connectivity across Indonesia.
"Business trends are changing. Many conventional companies are migrating to or developing their business to digital commerce. Hence, we continue to communicate with these companies, such as retail or digital market places, to get inputs on their business models and what needs to be adjusted regarding taxation," Indrawati pointed out.
