Ambon, Maluku, (ANTARA News) - A tectonic earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter Scale (SR), rocked the Maluku Tenggara Barat(MTB) district in Maluku Province on Tuesday at 6:29 a.m. East Indonesia Standard time (WIT).

The epicenter of the earthquake which occurred 7.58 south latitude and 128.98 east longitude, was on land about 264 kilometers Southwestern MTB district at the depth of 164 kilometers, head of the local office of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, Abraham Mustamu remarked here on Tuesday.

The coastal communities were asked not to be provoked by issues as the quake did not have potential to trigger subsequent tsunami.

Maluku is located at the confluence of three major plates, the Pacific, Indo Australia, and Eurasia.
