"With that comes the obligation to protect and preserve the legitimate side of the rules-based international system as long as there is no global alternative," Swartbol stated after the Trilateral Policy Dialogue here on Tuesday.
In many fields, we are witnessing rising tensions and developments that erode global rules.
"We seem to be in a period of transition. But the awkward thing is that whilst we know where we came from, it is very unclear where we are heading to," the ambassador remarked.
Over the last two days, members of renowned think-tanks and universities of Indonesia, Australia, and The Netherlands have been discussing this.
"The dialogue is expected to develop proposals for trilateral cooperation to promote the rules-based order in the wider Indo-Pacific region," the ambassador explained.
Meanwhile, an initiator of Indonesia-Australia-The Netherlands Policy Dialogue, Ernesto Braam, revealed that the trilateral dialogue discussed support for ASEAN centrality, UNCLOS, rules observatory-standards development, cyber security, joint strategic consultation, and diplomatic training.
This event brings together various officials and academic experts from the three participating countries.
