Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan, along with the regional coordination forum or Forkopimda, the Jakarta Provincial Religious Harmony Forum, and some Jakarta ranking officials, observed several churches here ahead of Christmas.

The governor entourage started from the City Hall on a bus to the first destination, the Cathedral Church in Central Jakarta, on Monday afternoon. At the Cathedral, Baswedan was welcomed by the Archbishop of Jakarta, Ignasius Suharyo.

"Welcome to celebrate the 2018 Christmas, peace, and harmony; simplicity is a part of our lives," Baswedan noted at the Cathedral Church.

He added that Jakarta is a city that has all the elements in Indonesia, and we must be grateful that this city has felt an atmosphere of mutual respect, and respect for harmony and peace in 2018.

"God willing, we keep going forward. This evening we express our appreciation for everything," he remarked.

Baswedan also greeted several congregations at the Cathedral Church.

Next, the group headed to the Catholic Church of Santo Andreas Kim Tae-Gon and Mawar Sharon Church in North Jakarta. Before going to the next location, he performed a Maghrib prayer at the Musyawah Mosque, North Jakarta.

Then, he headed to Central Jakarta to visit Paulus Church and GPIB Imanuele.
