Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Banten Governor Wahidin Halim has appealed for swifter handling of the victims of a tsunami that hit part of Padeglang District in Banten Province recently and claimed more than 400 lives.

To speed up the handling of tsunami victims, Governor Halim explained that coordination with the Regional Device Organization, or OPD, should continue to be made, so that assistance can immediately be extended to people in need.

"Handling the impact of the tsunami must be faster, so I have called on the relevant regencies to forge coordination according to their official duties and functions," the governor noted in a press release received by Antara here on Thursday.

Halim remarked that access to roads in several disaster-hit areas that had been disrupted earlier was now restored in order to maximize the distribution of logistics to tsunami victims.

The Banten provincial government has also effectively prepared and distributed logistical aid to refugees. Everything has functioned according to their respective offices, the governor noted.

"In order to have the right capacity and distribution of service targets, coordination is required. Everything must work optimally until we can fully and successfully handle the impact of this disaster," Halim added.
