Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Friday questioned Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo as a witness in an alleged bribery case linked to the issuance of permits for the Meikarta project in Bekasi district, West Java.

"I come to the KPK to testify in the case involving the Bekasi district head. As the home affairs minister, I am ready to give a testimony," he said after arriving at the KPK building here.

Kumolo is a witness in the case against Bekasi district head

Neneng Hassanah Yasin, who has been named a suspect in the case.

Earlier, Neneng mentioned Kumolo while she was giving a testimony in the trial involving Lippo Group operations director Billy Sindoro in the same case.

"(Neneng`s statement) is true but only in an open meeting. That`s all," she said.

In the court session held in the Bandung Anti-Corruption Court on January 14, 2019, the suspended Bekasi district head said Kumolo had asked her to help with the licensing of the project.

"Tjahjo Kumolo asked me to help with the licensing of Meikarta," she said.

Neneng said she was asked to come to Jakarta to meet Director General of Regional Autonomy Soemarsono in connection with the result of the plenary meeting with then West Java vice governor Deddy Mizwar.

At the meeting held to discuss the permit for the use of land, Deddy suggested that the licensing of the project built on 84.6 hectares of land should be postponed. The project needed a recommendation from the West Java governor.

Neneng accepted the request but added that the licensing must comply with the existing rules.

The KPK has named nine suspects in the case, including Lippo Group operations director Billy Sindoro, Lippo Group consultants Taryudi and Fitra Djaja Purnama, Chief of the Bekasi District Public Works and Housing Office Jamaludin), and Chief of the Bekasi District Fire Department Sahat MBJ Nahor (SMN).
