Bengkulu, (ANTARA News) - The revitalization of the Sumber Jaya fishing village in Bengkulu would be used as a model for the development of similar villages in the country.

"At least we will have a prototype of a fishing village," President Joko Widodo or Jokowi as he commonly known said after observing the Sumber Jaya fishing village in Bengkulu on Friday.

Although the development of the village has only been completed 20 percent, people can see that the village is well organized, Jokowi said.

"More or less the result would be like this (well-organized)," he added.

Similar fishing villages would be developed in other regions such as Tegal District in Central Java and Pontianak in West Kalimantan.

The Sumber Jaya fishermen village covers an area of 12 hectares and accommodates 800 families.

The Public Works and Housing Ministry has allocated Rp50.7 billion in funds for the revitalization of the village.

The development project is divided into three zones for the jetty, connecting road, local street, drainage, street lighting, by-water communal park, river monitoring and control.

The first stage of zone A development was started in 2016, and it has been continued to Zone B and C from 2017 to 2019.

The village revitalization would not change the existing pattern but it would prioritize the development of infrastructure.

The president was accompanied by Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti, Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Bengkulu Governor Rohidin Mersyah, and presidential chief of staff Moeldoko.
