Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Transportation Ministry`s Directorate General of Air Transportation increased supervision on using Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft after a similar model of Ethiopian Airlines departing from Bole Airport, Addis Ababa, en route to Nairobi, crashed on Sunday.

"Until now, we continue to take corrective steps, starting from operational procedures and additional training to following up on `Airworthiness Directives` issued by the `Federal Aviation Administration,`" Director General of Air Transportation Polana B. Pramesti noted in a written statement in Jakarta, Monday.

DG Hubud will continue to supervise airlines still operating the same type of aircraft in Indonesia.

Supervision of the Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft had been conducted since October 2018.

In addition to overseeing the operation of the Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft, Pramesti remarked that it had continued to cooperate with the National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC), Boeing, and world aviation institutions, such as the FAA, to continue the evaluation of Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft types.

This cooperation is deemed necessary for making improvements in operational techniques or for the follow-up of the Directorate General of Transportation at the operational level of Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft.

"We will also communicate and monitor the investigation process of the Max Boeing 737-8 type that crashed in Ethiopia and coordinate with the FAA to decide on further steps in Boeing 737-8 Max`s operational repairs," he remarked.

Speaking in connection with this incident, Pramesti has advised all airlines in Indonesia to comply with the principle of 3S + 1 C in flight -- Safety, Security, Service and Compliance (compliance with applicable rules) -- as safety must be the main focus in aviation.

In addition, airplane passengers are encouraged to participate in maintaining and improving flight safety and security, as aircraft passengers too have a stake in ensuring flight safety and security, starting from the airport terminal area, to inside the aircraft, and to the destination airport.
