Sumenep, E Java (ANTARA News)- A whirlwind hit Sumenep on Madura Island, East Java Province, and damaged at least 50 homes located in four villages in two sub-districts on Sunday.

The villages were Talang and East Kamibangan in Saronggi Sub-district, and Poreh and Tarogan in Lenteng Sub-district, Abdul Rahman Readi, head of the Sumenep disaster mitigation office, said here on Monday.

Of the 50 damaged homes, 46 were located in Lenteng, and four in Saronggi.

Several trees and electricity poles fell due to the strong wind.

The whirlwind inflicted material losses worth hundreds of million rupiahs, but claimed no live.

A joint team comprising among others military and police officers was deployed to help the natural disaster`s victims.

The local disaster mitigation office reported that 21 locations in Kalianget, Pasongsongan, Guluk-Guluk, Lenteng and Saronggi Sub-districts in Sumenep District were prone to natural disasters.
