Banda Aceh (ANTARA) -
The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) of the Republic of Indonesia states that infrastructure development that connects with one area in both the rural, district and provincial areas is one of the priority programs that will be implemented in 2019.

One of the efforts taken to answer the priority program in providing convenience in transportation between one region and another is to build a suspension bridge, said Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, said in Darussalam, Banda Aceh, on Monday.

He made the statement while opening the Regional PUPR Consultation in Sumatra which took place at AAC Dawan Dawood Darussalam, Banda Aceh and was also attended by Acting Governor of Aceh, Nova Iriansyah.

He explained that one of the efforts to provide connectivity, especially in despised areas, is that the distance is far away, but there are alternative routes that can accelerate so that suspension bridges and rope bridges will be built.

He said that in 2019, the Ministry of PUPR will build 166 suspension bridges across the country to facilitate connectivity between one region and another.

"The construction of the suspension bridge is a commitment of the Central Government to provide facilities and infrastructure programs to the community," he said.

He said his side would continue to build suspension bridges in an effort to replace the rope bridges that are often used by people in rural areas as an alternative route.
