"We intent to improve the quality of education service in the country by improving teachers' quality and welfare, especially those with part-time employment status," Sandiaga Uno said at the third round of presidential debate held at Sultan Hotel in Jakarta on Sunday.
Uno promised to promote contract teachers, who have worked for many years under the part-time employment status in many schools in Indonesia, to become full-time teachers with permanent employment status.
Based on data, some 736,000 teachers in Indonesia still hold temporary employment status.
Director General of Teachers and Educators at the Ministry of Education and Culture Supriano mentioned two solutions that could overcome the welfare problem of contract teachers, namely participating in the selection of candidates for Civil Servants (CPNS) or in the selection of Governmental Officers with Employment Agreements (PPPK).
The government has targeted to resolve all the problems of contract teachers in 2023.
