The quake's epicenter was located at 10 km northeast of Padang Pariaman, and at a depth of 10 km underground.
The tremor was felt by residents of Padang Panjang and Pariaman at IV MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity), and Agam and Tanah Datar Districts at II-III MMI.
Indonesia, one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world, sits on the Ring of Fire, also known as Circum-Pacific Belt or Pacific Ring of Fire, where most earthquakes occur. This ring is said to be dotted with 75% of Earth’s all active volcanoes.
