Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA) - State-owned electricity company PT. PLN has provided 39 standby posts in Pekanbaru, Riau province, in order to ensure continuous electricity supply during the 2019 elections to be held on Wednesday, April 17.

PLN Customer Service Unit Manager in Pekanbaru, Himawan Sutanto, stated here on Tuesday that PLN had succeeded in managing electricity supply during the High School Computer-Based National Examination this month using the standby posts.

The same 39 posts will also be used to ensure electricity supply during the elections in Pekanbaru. Such standby posts were also established in several cities in the PLN's service area.

"There are 39 standby posts scattered across all service areas of the PLN Customer Service Unit in Pekanbaru, such as Pekanbaru city, Pasir Pangaraian district, Pelalawan district, Siak district, and Kampar district," he stated.

Furthermore, PLN has also arranged 24 generator units and some 221 personnel to remain on standby from April 15 to April 24, 2019.

The personnel were deputed and generator units placed across 71 posts of Pekanbaru's sub-district committees, General Elections Commission (KPUD), and Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).

"We have arranged these facilities to ensure continuous electricity supply during the recapitulation of the election vote count. We have also placed emergency lights in each post of the sub-district committee," he said.

Sutanto further added that the state of electricity in Pekanbaru was relatively safe, but PLN would stay alert to prevent unscheduled disruptions.

"Hopefully the electricity supply during the election process will be stable," he said.
