Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA) - An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 struck 34 kilometers southwest of Daruba in North Maluku province on Wednesday at 10.28 West Indonesia Standard Time (WIB). "The quake which occurred at a depth of 78 kilometers had the same epicenter as the previous quake but did not have the potential to cause a tsunami," spokesman for the Manado City Geophysics Station Sandy said.

Earlier in the day, a quake of magnitude 5.2 also shook the area 31 kilometers southwest of Daruba at 09.17 WIB at a depth of 100 kilometers. However, this one too did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.

There were no immediate reports of any loss of life or damage to property.

A quake which measures 5.0 on the Richter scale is considered capable of causing damage.
