"We have taken precautionary measures in the face of an estimated surge in homecoming flow five days before D-day, or (H-5), on May 31, Friday, while the return flow will peak on June 9, on Sunday, or three days after Eid, or (H+3)," Moeldoko remarked after a meeting to discuss the implementation of the 2019 Mudik at the Bina Graha Building, Jakarta, on Friday.
Moeldoko noted that during the 2019 Eid homecoming season, all constructed Java toll roads up to Probolinggo, East Java, will be operational.
The government has projected a 4.4 percent rise in the number of travelers in 2019 than the previous year.
Moreover, as a precautionary measure against traffic accidents, the government, through the National Police's Office of Transportation and Correlation, will put forth pleas via banners and radio broadcasting.
"We also pondered over ways to handle cases of people involved in accidents or suffering from heart-related ailments. We have made adequate preparations by readying first aid kits to offer assistance," Moeldoko explained.
In the meantime, Police Operations Assistant Inspector General Rudy Sufahriadi revealed that the police had made plans to secure homecoming travelers.
"We have made security arrangements that have been applied at each police post. Hence, we have made requisite preparations, be it for the homecoming or reverse flow," Sufahriadi noted.
To ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the Cikampek toll road, the government will put a temporary halt on the Cikampek elevated toll road construction.
Moreover, officers will apply a "contra flow" system during specific times to handle homebound vehicular traffic.
Furthermore, officers will be put on alert to control the flow of traffic at the exit of the Terbanggi Besar Toll Road in Lampung.
