Surabaya (ANTARA) - Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Ma'ruf Amin lead in the early stages of the open plenary meeting on the 2019 election vote recapitulation at the Election Commission office, Jalan Adityawarman Number 87, Surabaya City, East Java, Tuesday.

In line with the schedule, the six sub-districts of Pakal, Bulak, Asemrowo, Gayungan, Jambangan, and Benowo conducted vote recapitulation at the beginning or the first day. Of these sub-districts, only Pakal and Bulak concluded the recapitulation until this afternoon.

"It is expected to be implemented in accordance with the target. The recapitulation was held safely, conducively, and smoothly," General Election Commission (KPU) Chairman Surabaya Nur Syamsi noted.

Recapitulation in Pakal District showed the Jokowi-Ma'ruf presidential and vice-presidential candidate pair garnering 22,141 votes and Prabowo-Sandi only securing 9,144 votes. This same trend was observed in Bulak District where Jokowi-Ma'ruf won 16,272 votes and Prabowo-Sandi got 7,168 votes.

Syamsi pointed to no major hindrances being faced during recapitulation conducted in the two sub-districts. He is upbeat that the recapitulation process, to be held until May 4, will proceed in a conducive manner.

"No problems had yet been encountered, either in terms of the voter data, voting rights of users, or electoral participation," he stated.

Syamsi noted that owing to security concerns, the KPU had reportedly established cooperation with the Big City Resort Police (Polrestabes) Surabaya to continually safeguard the recapitulation process at Surabaya City until it concludes on May 4.

"In the event of a security issue, my friends from the Big City Resort Police (polestabes) Tanjung Perak Regional Police will assist in securing the process," he added.
