Langkat, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - The police are still on the lookout for 51 inmates, who had fled after the protest in Langkat Prison in North Sumatra on Thursday took a violent turn.

"A total of 51 inmates are still absconding, and we continue to look for them," Head of the Correctional Division of the North Sumatra's law and human rights office Jahari Sitepu noted here on Friday.

Sitepu remarked that of the 1,634 inmates in the prison, only 1,480 prisoners were traceable following the unrest.

Earlier, on Thursday, irate inmates went on a rampage and set ablaze Langkat Prison. A total of 154 inmates escaped the prison following the protest.

Nonetheless, the police successfully re-captured 103 prisoners, of which three had surrendered.

"A total of 51 other inmates are still on the run," he confirmed.

The police had moved 60 prisoners to Tanjungpura Prison and 43 inmates to Binjai Prison.
