Tanjungpandan, Belitung (ANTARA) - A boat carrying tens of tourists capsized in the waters off Lengkuas Island in Belitung District, Bangka Belitung Province on Saturday (June 8), killing one person.

One passenger was pronounced dead and tens of others survived the accident, Chief of the Belitung Police Resort Adjunct Senior Commissioner Yuhdis Wibisana said in Tanjungpandan, Bangka Belitung on Sunday.

"The boat capsized and sank about five minutes after it sailed to Lengkuas Island," he said.

The passenger identified as Rozali from Air Saga village, Tanjung Pandang Sub-district, Belitung District was killed since he was late to receive aid, he said.

The other passengers were successfully rescued with some of them sustaining injuries.

"Four passengers are receiving medical treatment at Marsidi Judono Regional General Hospital, while the others were allowed to return home," he said.

The four passengers who received medical treatment are identified as Cici Herliyani (34) of Air Saga Tanjung Pandan), Kienta (2,5) of Tanjung Binga Village, Tanjung Pandan, Meris Yuniarti (16) of Air Saga Village, and Dea (16) of Perawas Village, Tanjung Pandan.
