Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) dispatched two aircraft and a helicopter to support a disaster mitigation drill at the Sutan Sjahrir Airbase in Padang, the capital of West Sumatra Province, on Thursday.

The two aircraft comprised a CN-295 numbered A-2904 and Hercules C-310 numbered A-1320, while the helicopter was a Super Puma, with number H 3216.

The CN-295 aircraft landed at the Sutan Syahrir airbase at around 10:30 a.m. local time, while the Hercules C-310 aircraft made a landing at the airbase thirty minutes later, according to an Antara journalist's observation.

The helicopter was stationed at the airbase since Thursday morning.

The Super Puma was flown to the airbase from the air squadron 6 of the Atang Sendjaya Airbase in Bogor, West Java.

Chief of the Air Force Operation Command I Vice Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo and Commander of the Padang Airbase Colonel Purwanto Adi Nugroho were also present at the event.

Some 210 personnel from the Air Force, Navy, Army, National Police, Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), and National Search and Rescue Agency as well as aviation school students and boy scouts took part in the disaster mitigation drill.

The drill featured several simulation activities, such as search and rescue and evacuation of victims.

West Sumatra is one of the Indonesian provinces prone to earthquakes.
