Cibinong, Bogor (ANTARA) - The Bogor District Police have arrested 11 armed criminals who robbed minimarkets, automated teller machines, and vehicles in areas around Bogor and Bekasi in West Java as well as Banten Province, a police spokesman said. The detainees, aged between 25 and 28 years old, were only identified by their initials as P, HV, R, AD, IP, JA, JIR, MYA, I, RM dan PRW. All are men," the Bogor Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Andi M Dicky told journalists here Monday.

The suspects specialized in robbing the Alfamart and Indomart minimarkets at night, Dicky said. Over these past few months, they told the police investigators that they had looted minimarkets in 17 different places by threatening cashiers at gunpoint, he said.

However, their criminal acts were stopped after local policemen nabbed them in Gunung Putri area of Bogor District on June 18. They were arrested for allegedly robbing an Alfamart minimarket in Cileungsi area of Bogor District in May 2019, he said.

The suspects confessed to the police investigators that they had robbed minimarkets in 17 different places around Bogor, Bekasi, and Banten resulting in losses to the victims valued at Rp287 million, Dicky said.

The suspects also targeted automated teller machines and vehicles. Before committing these crimes they consumed drugs, Dicky said quoting their confessions.

Commenting on the police's success in uncovering this robbery case, Director of PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya's Corporate Affairs Solihin expressed his appreciation for the police and said that the arrest of those suspects would make the minimarkets more secure.
