Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA) - The West Sumatra Provincial Police seized its biggest ever haul of drugs in the province, reaching seven kilograms of crystal meth, from two suspects.

The suspects, identified by their initials as OF and IF, were arrested from two different locations on Monday (July 1, 2019), Drugs Director of the West Sumatra Provincial Police Senior Commissioner Ma'mun stated on Thursday.

The police thwarted the drug trafficking attempt after receiving a tip-off that two people will bring drugs to West Sumatra from the neighboring Riau Province, he revealed.

Ma'mun noted that the police later followed up on the tip-off and spied on the activities of the two people.

OF, 27, carrying a large bag, was arrested while riding a motorcycle at high speed, he noted.

"After we became suspicious of him, we followed him. When we arrived in 50 Kota District, we stopped and searched him," he remarked.

Ma'mun confirmed that OF was caught with two large packages of crystal meth, weighing two kilograms. He intended to bring the contraband to West Sumatra.

OF admitted to only playing his part of delivering the drugs to the person, who had placed the order, he stated.

The police later cross-examined the suspect to uncover details of where he had got the contraband.

The police later arrested the other suspect, identified by his initials as IJM, at his residence on Teratai Street in Pekanbaru, Riau, at 12:45 WIB. During the search conducted at the house, the police confiscated five packages of crystal meth that weighed five kilograms.

"The culprits were later taken to the Riau Provincial Police Headquarters to expose the case. It appears that the drugs were imported from another country, as the consignment was wrapped with plastic bearing the logo of the Yin Wang tea brand," he added.
