Kertajati, Jawa Barat (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi reviewed the West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati, Majalengka District, West Java, to hold a meeting with the local government and witness up close its condition.

"Many prospective passengers positively welcomed the existence of Kertajati Airport, and indeed, we must continue to disseminate information, so that the public will know more about the benefits of this airport," Minister Sumadi stated while addressing the press in Kertajati, West Java, Saturday.

Deputy Governor of West Java Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, Director General of Air Transportation Polana Pramesti, Director General of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi, and Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin, as well as local provincial officials were present at the event.

Sumadi explained that all domestic flights were transferred to Kertajati to reduce congestion at the Husein Sastranegara Airport, Bandung, West Java.

The Ministry of Transportation had earlier reached a decision that all domestic flights operating at Husein Sastranegara Airport will be moved to BIJB Kertajati, starting July 1, 2019.

According to records of the Ministry of Transportation, since Sunday (6/30/2019) night, the process of transfer of flights to Kertajati Airport went smoothly, and Sumadi had continued to monitor the flight transfer process and had commended all stakeholders.

"I continued to monitor the flight transfer process until the last one that landed at Kertajati Airport. The officers welcomed the arrival of passengers on the last flight last night and ensured that all passengers received land transportation to travel to the destination city," he explained.

Sumadi praised the sound cooperation of the relevant stakeholders that enabled the smooth transfer of flights from Husein Airport to Kertajati.

Moreover, Sumadi lauded Angkasa Pura II, the airline, West Java provincial government, West Java Transportation Agency, road transport companies, and other relevant stakeholders, for ensuring the smooth transfer of flights on the route to Kertajati Airport on Sunday, June 30, 2019, without major obstacles.

During this transfer process, the first aircraft to land at Kertajati Airport on Sunday at 8:00 am Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB) was an AirAsia plane from Denpasar, Bali, with 133 passengers onboard.

In addtion, a Garuda Indonesia aircraft flight number 335 operating on the Denpasar-Kertajati route landed at 04:15 pm WIB, and Lion Air flight number 957 on the Pontianak-Kertajati route landed at 09: 00 pm WIB, and Lion Air flight number 953 on the Lombok-Kertajati route made a landing at 08:12 pm WIB.

In connection with the continued mass transit, buses, such as Damri, have been available for passengers to reach the destination city after landing at Kertajati Airport.

Some aircraft passengers have opted for the Damri bus. The first departure of the Damri bus from Kertajati Airport is for Bandung. Passengers can travel free of charge on the Damri bus for a month from Kertajati Airport.
