Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesia International Defense Science Seminar (IIDSS) is an important forum to intensify communication among countries in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly on defense issues, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said. "This forum is a very important (for the defense sector) to jointly seek common ground in facing problems and challenges," Ryacudu said at the opening of the IIDSS 2019 in Jakarta Monday.

At the forum, each country can share examples of its defense issues and solutions and the possibility of cooperation on overcoming cross-border security disruptions, mainly in a strategic region such as the Indo-Pacific where 40 percent of the global economy or US$5.8 trillion circulates.

"Of course, the Indo-Pacific will always be a geopolitical and economic center, and will become a battle arena of influences (from various powers)," Ryacudu added.

Improved communications between countries in the Indo-Pacific will make it a lot easier to resolve threats of geopolitical, economic, and personal ideologies, according to him.

This year, under the theme of "Enhancing Defense Cooperation to Deal with Terrorism, Cyber Threats and Natural Disaster”, the event focuses on security, stability, and humanitarian issues and subjects related to defense studies and defense technologies. (INE)
