Jambi (ANTARA) - The Jambi Police have arrested a man for alleged drug smuggling and confiscated one kilogram of methamphetamine packaged in a coffee pack.

Director of the Drugs Investigation Unit Senior Commissioner Eka Wahyudianta confirmed here on Thursday that suspect Alfiando Ojahan Dacosta was arrested along with confiscating a kilogram of methamphetamine from Malaysia, smuggled into Tanjung Balai Karimun in Riau and transported to Palembang in South Sumatra through Jambi.

Dacosta was arrested on early Wednesday (July 17) in the east of Trans-Sumatra Highway in front of a traffic police post in the border of Jambi and Riau in Tanjungjabung Barat District.

The arrest was made after the police received tip-off on drug transaction in the region and intended to be transported to Palembang.

Dacosta admitted to following the orders of a person to pick up the drugs consignment in Tanjung Balai Karimun and brought them to Buton aboard a ferry before transporting them to Jambi and Palembang.

The drug was packed in a coffee bag bearing the brand Ahhuat White Coffee.

Dacosta will be charged with violating article 112 of Law No. 35 of 2009 on drugs that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of Rp10 billion. Related news: BNN confiscates 52 kg crystal meth in Chinese tea packs from Malaysia
