In the next meeting (Tuesday, July 23), all factions must deliver their views regarding the request of giving Baiq Nuril amnesty by President JokowiJakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian House of Representatives’ Commission III, will consider the granting of amnesty requested for Baiq Nuril by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), in a meeting Tuesday, July 23, 2019. “In the next meeting (Tuesday, July 23), all factions must deliver their views regarding the request of giving Baiq Nuril amnesty by President Jokowi,” a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Commission III from National Mandate Party (PAN) faction, Muslim Ayub said in Jakarta Monday.
In the internal meeting, each faction will deliver its point of view related to the amnesty request, he said.
PAN had argued that there was evidence that the school principal had harassed Baiq and that must be revealed, he said.
“I hope the harassment could be revealed since there was evidence, and hopefully, all factions will agree on that,” Ayub stated.
He had been in the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Commission III for five years and Nuril’s case was the first where the president had requested amnesty, Ayub continued. There must be something unusual in this case.
Therefore, the case must be investigated thoroughly to ensure that there would be no more sexual harassment cases in Indonesia’s school environment, according to him.
Earlier in the afternoon Tuesday, July 16, the Steering Committee (Bamus) of the Indonesian House of Representatives’ meeting, had decided to assign Commission III to discuss the president’s letter requesting amnesty for Nuril, to the House.
“I chaired the Bamus meeting to assign Commission III to discuss both the request and the letter from the president regarding consideration of amnesty in the case of Mrs Baiq Nuril,” said Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Agus Hermanto at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta last week.
In the Bamus meeting all factions had agreed on assigning Commission III to address the President’s letter, he stated. Thus, it would not take much time. (INE)
