Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s government, at the ASEAN-US Ministerial Meeting held in Bangkok on August 1, 2019, urged the United States to assist in solving the Palestine issue, noted Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s written statement, received here, Friday.

The meeting is part of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers and Dialogue Partner Meeting series held from July 30 to August 2, 2019.

At the meeting, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi highlighted the Palestine issue. "The Palestine issue has remained close to the hearts of Indonesian people," she stated.

Marsudi affirmed that the United States, with its capacity, is expected to assist Palestine in establishing just peace and their vision of independence by settling conflicts between the two nations.

Furthermore, Marsudi pointed to the world being rife with uncertainty and challenges. In order to handle the situation, Indonesia believes that the best solution lies in intensifying cooperation between the ASEAN and US to create a better world for all.

Minister Marsudi lauded the US Secretary of State Pompeo for attending the meeting. Marsudi emphasized that Pompeo's presence symbolized US' commitment in bolstering the country’s cooperation with ASEAN.

She also highlighted that the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific will serve as a guideline and instrument for the ASEAN to contribute to the creation of regional and global peace.
