The meeting between ASEAN foreign ministers and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 1, 2019.
At the meeting, Indonesia's Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi commended India’s support for the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific, as noted in a written statement issued by Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and received here on Friday.
Minister Marsudi reiterated that Indonesia expects to intensify cooperation in two sectors within the Indo-Pacific context, specifically in science and technology and maritime.
Furthermore, Indonesia's foreign minister also voiced her aspirations of a settlement of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiation to be concluded this year.
Despite varied challenges encountered in the negotiation process, Indonesia is confident that with high commitment, the negotiation can be concluded on time.
"This economic partnership will not only increase the values of trade and investment between the ASEAN regions and India, but it will also serve as a clear evidence of integration in economy and just multilateral economic partnership with mutual benefits for all parties," Marsudi stated.
