"Of the total, 22 houses experienced moderate damage and 14 houses underwent major damage," said Coordinator of operation control of the West Aceh District Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) Mashuri on behalf of BPBD Chief Mukhtaruddin on Sunday night.
Mashuri predicted the number of damaged houses would most likely increase as the BPBD was still assessing the extent of damage.
Many houses were damaged so that most of their occupants took refuge at their neighbors' and relatives' houses, he said.
To help the victims of strong winds, the BPBD has distributed blankets, household utensils and school kits among them in the scene., he said
