"However, several regions are now entering the period of transition to the rainy season," BMKG Deputy Chief for Meteorology, Mulyono R Prabowo, said during a discussion with the Merdeka Barat Media Forum (FMB) 9 with the theme, "Anticipating Land and Forest Fires to Continue", on Thursday.
The rainy season will hit Indonesia at different times since the country has a very large territory, he said.
In general, the rainy season will start from northern, central and southern Sumatra and later spread to Kalimantan, Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.
"East Nusa Tenggara will have the longest dry season," he said.
Since Indonesia has a large territory, the duration of the dry season in each of the provinces depends on its geographic location. Each area in one province could also have an earlier rainy season than the others.
The BMKG also predicts the dry season will peak in January or February and western Sumatra will be hit by rains earlier than the rest of the country this year, he said.
