We will cooperate with the BMKG in researching the assessment and application of artificial intelligence-based SMART WMT
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) has signed an agreement with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to develop artificial intelligence-based weather modification technology (WMT). "We will cooperate with the BMKG in researching the assessment and application of artificial intelligence-based SMART WMT," BPPT Chief Hammam Riza said during the signing of the agreement at the BPPT building in Jakarta Friday.

BMKG will provide BPPT with information on weather forecast which will indicate hotspots and their impacts.

"BMKG will conduct weather forecasts to analyze its impact on hotspots, its impact on land and forest fires, and the impact on drought and failed harvests," he said.

The detailed data will be synchronized with big data of weather usually used by BMKG to provide weather information services, he said.

The big data will contain complete data to predict the location and time the hotspots occur and their intensity, he said.

Through the data, the machine will study and show how large is the potential of forest and land fires, he said.

The prediction will also strengthen mitigation efforts through SMART WMT in the areas prone to drought and land and forest fires, he said.

"The WMT will mitigate (the impact of drought) so we can prevent failed harvest, land and forest fires and other hydrometeorological disasters," he said.

The SMART WMT will produce a decision support system which makes the operation of WMT more credible," he said.
