We conducted surveys four times before and after the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election and the 2019 presidential election...Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesia Survey Institute (LSI)-Denny JA released the results of its surveys, which showed declining public trust in state and social institutes following the 2019 presidential election and the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election.
"We conducted surveys four times before and after the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election and the 2019 presidential election," LSI-Denny JA senior researcher, Adjie Alfaraby, said while disclosing the results of the surveys in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election is worth researching since it is one of the regional head elections which drew public attention and polarized voters until the 2019 presidential election, he said.
The surveys showed that public trust in state institutions including the Regional Representative Council (DPD) fell to 64.2 percent in September 2019 from 68.7 percent in July 2018, he said.
Similarly, public trust in the House of Representatives (DPR) dropped to 63.5 percent in September 2019 from 65 percent in July 2018 and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) declined from 89 percent to 85.7 percent.
"In July 2018, the percentage of those who believed the Constitutional Court (MK) works in the interest of the people reached 76.4 percent but it fell to 70.2 percent after the presidential election," he said.
Meanwhile, public trust in the National Police (Polri) fell to 72.1 percent from 87.7 percent and faith in the National Defense Forces (TNI) declined slightly to 78.1 percent from 82.3 percent.
In the end, the results of the surveys are only limited to the effect on an event, in this case, the presidential election and regional head elections, so it cannot be seen as a trend.
