Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - Members of the National Police's counterterrorism squad Densus 88 shot dead two suspected terrorists during a raid at the Kota Datar area, Hamparan Perak Sub-district, Deli Serdang District, North Sumatra Province, on Saturday.

North Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Agus Andrianto remarked that the two suspects were shot dead since they attacked personnel of Densus 88 and local police to evade arrest.

"They were shot dead as they attacked the security personnel. Should we have allowed them to do that? Stern actions should be taken against them," Andrianto emphasized.

The Densus 88 squad personnel have been working closely with their colleagues from the North Sumatra police headquarters to uncover details and facts behind the suicide bombing attack at the Medan city police headquarters on Wednesday morning, November 13, 2019.

The suicide bomber died in the blast that wounded six people.

The police's counterterrorism squad personnel have continued to hunt for those suspected of being involved in the terrorist network in North Sumatra.

The Densus 88 squad members have also tracked down the suspects until Aceh, the neighboring province of North Sumatra.

"Well, we have, so far, arrested three suspects in Aceh," Inspector General Andrianto stated.

Speaking in connection with this bombing attack, Indonesia's top security minister Mahfud MD confirmed it would lead the related law enforcement agencies to unearth terror networks in the areas of North Sumatra Province.

"I have discussed this matter with the home minister (Tito Karnavian). Referring to the case of the recent knife attack on Mr Wiranto (in Banten Province), it has led the police to stamp out the terrorist groups in West Java," he stated on Wednesday.

The acts of radicalism were placed into three categories, Mahfud MD stated.

The first category concerned individuals, who view others as enemies, the second is related to bombing attacks or assaults, while the third is linked to debates on ideological issues.

The Medan bombing attack was related to the second category, he stated while urging the people at large to allow the police to handle the case and put to trial those behind this act of terror.

A suspected suicide bomber detonated himself in the yard of the Medan city police headquarters on Wednesday morning, injuring six people.

Following this incident, security was intensified at several police compounds in Indonesia's main cities, including Jakarta and Bandung. Related news: Nine to likely be named suspects in Medan suicide bombing
