Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have deported 80 Chinese nationals suspected of online fraud at the request of the Chinese government. "We received a request from the Chinese government and their embassy to help arrest (the Chinese nationals involved) in the online fraud that has victimized many Chinese residents," Director of the Special Criminal Detective Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner Iwan Kurniawan said Thursday.

The request from the Chinese government and victims served as the basis for the deportation of all the suspects who will face the legal process in China, he said.

Earlier, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police arrested 85 Chinese nationals believed to be members of an international fraud syndicate. However, intensive interrogations by the police revealed that six of them were not involved.

The police also nabbed six Indonesian citizens while arresting the Chinese. However, they too were found innocent after investigations.

Investigators of the Special Criminal Detective Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police handed over the 80 Chinese nationals to the Directorate General of Immigration of the Law and Human Rights Ministry on Thursday afternoon for deportation.

"The results of our investigation show that only 80 Chinese nationals were allegedly involved in the online fraud," Iwan said.
