Jakarta (ANTARA) - As many as 51 students of several Indonesian schools in Saudi Arabia presented different Indonesian cultural performances at an event marking the 50th anniversary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jedda, Saudi Arabia, recently.

"They presented 16 Indonesian dances, songs and traditional musical instruments which received warm welcome from the visitors," according to a statement made available to Antara on Tuesday.

The students come from Indonesian schools in Riyadh, Mecca and Jeddah.

As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia is known as a tolerant country in terms of ethnic groups and religious adherents. In this regard, the students took the chance to bring the theme diversity through the art talents of the Indonesian students.

Various art performances were displayed at the event held from November 25 to 28, 2019. One of the art performances is Tan Ratoh Jaroe, commonly known as saman dance.

OIC was set up on September 25, 1969 to enhance solidarity among Muslim countries. To date, OIC has 57 members mostly in Asia and Africa, including Indonesia.

OIC also aims to coordinate cooperation among its members, support global peace and security, protect Islamic shrines, and help the Palestinian people's struggle for an independent and sovereign nation.
