We hope the road sections currently under construction can be completed soonJakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) observed a road construction project at the Indonesia-Malaysia border in Nunukan District, North Kalimantan Province, on Thursday, and ordered those responsible to complete the project immediately. "This is the Indonesia-Malaysia's borderline. This is Nunukan while on the other side is Sarawak. We hope the road sections currently under construction can be completed soon," the President told a press conference in Krayan Subdistrict.
So far, the workers could have completed the nearly 966 kilometer-long road on the Indonesian side in the border area of the two countries, he said, adding that infrastructure development is aimed at boosting Indonesia's economic growth.
At the same time, the infrastructure development projects are significant for strengthening the inter-district connectivity to support the immediate mobility of people, goods, and commodities, President Jokowi said.
In his second leadership term, the central government would keep going ahead with its infrastructure development program, and would also focus on improving the quality and capacity of the Indonesian human resources, he said.
On the sidelines of his working visit to Nunukan District, President Jokowi was awarded a customary title by the Dayak Lundayeh communities. He also met with the top leader of Dayak Kenyak communities and 11 tribal leaders in Malinau District.
Getting onboard a helicopter, President Jokowi is also scheduled to observe hydro power potential areas in North Kalimantan.
On August 16, 2019, the incumbent president had highlighted the need for infrastructure development and interregional connectivity and stressed on their pivotal role in the country’s transformation, particularly in the frontier, outermost and remote (3T) regions.
"For infrastructure outside 3T regions, the government is focusing on improvement of management, governance, and regulatory framework to support economic transformation," he said revealed.
Delivering the government's statement on the bill on the state budget for the 2020 fiscal year and its financial note at the House of Representatives (DPR) plenary session, Jokowi said that infrastructure development across all remote areas would focus on connectivity throughout the supply chain, connecting markets, and people's production centers.
The sectors that would benefit from infrastructure development include agriculture, fishery, plantation, and industry, including micro, small, and medium enterprises, he said.
"We will also continue to develop the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and other mass transportation modes to make the entire transportation system in big cities more efficient, more pollution-free, and thoroughly connected," the President said.
