Tahuna, North Sulawesi (ANTARA) - One person died while one went missing as a flash flood struck dozens of houses in Lebo Village, Manganitu Sub-district, Sangihe Islands District, North Sulawesi on early Friday.

"One resident was killed and another resident Armando Makananging, 18, is still missing," head of Sangihe Islands District Jabes Ezar Gaghana remarked after a visit to the location here on Friday.

Bartolomeus Mangape, 83, a resident of Lebo Village, died in the flash flood.

Seven other residents sustained injuries in the incident, Gaghana added.

"The injured victims were treated at the Manganitu public health center," he stated.

The district administration has distributed aid to residents affected by the flash flood, Gaghana remarked.

In Greater Jakarta, tens of thousands of people were evacuated on Thursday after floods and landslides in the area killed up to 21 people.

Until 8:50 WIB, on Thursday (Jan 2), West Jakarta, East Jakarta, Central Jakarta, South Jakarta, Tangerang, and Bekasi were apparently flooded.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a warning on heavy rains across the Greater Jakarta area and the possibility of flooding during the February-March 2020 period. Related news: BNPB will apply weather modification technology to overcome flooding
