Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The provincial government of South Sulawesi expressed its support for the development of renewable energy to improve its people's welfare.

"We encourage renewable energy, as the provincial government has developed in South Sulawesi with the establishment of wind power plant in Sidrap and Jeneponto Districts," Deputy Governor of South Sulawesi Andi Sudirman Sulaiman said here on Friday.

Speaking at a symposium themed 'Renewable Energy for the Future', held by PT Vale Indonesia, Sulaiman said the renewable energy development program had been carried out by integrated nickel mining and processing, PT Vale Indonesia.

The provincial administration welcomes the program to be adopted in South Sulawesi and at the national level, he said.

"We hope there are integrated policies as the derivative policy products that support one another, including to encourage environmentally friendly energy transportation systems, industry, and others simultaneously," he said.

He believed that such integrated policies will encourage businesses to work together, so as to create a balance of eco-friendly living.

Meanwhile, CEO of PT Vale Indonesia Febriany Eddy said that during 50 years of its operation, the company continues to support the Sustainable Development Goals through good mining practices.

"At Vale, investing in sustainability is not a mere added value, but it is an obligation. It is also in line with the company's mission to turn natural resources into welfare and sustainable development," he said.
