The presence of the SPKLU will serve the public in charging their electrical energy-based vehiclesSemarang (ANTARA) - State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is encouraging the public to opt for electric mobility, so that electric vehicles, which are more efficient and environment-friendly, go mainstream.
As part of its programs to encourage the use of electric vehicles, PLN began operating a public electric vehicle charging station (SPKLU) at its customer service unit in Semarang, Central Java, on Thursday.
"The SPKLU will serve the public in charging their electrical energy-based vehicles," PLN General Manager of the Central Java-Yogyakarta Distribution Unit Feby Joko Priharto stated on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the launch of the SPKLU.
The first SPKLU in Central Java will impel the public to transition to electrical energy-based motor vehicles since they are more efficient and cheaper than oil-fueled vehicles, he explained.
Priharto affirmed that the Central Java provincial capital of Semarang is the fifth city in Indonesia where a SPKLU has been set up. If increasingly more number of people switch to electric vehicles, PLN will build more SPKLUs in several cities in the province.
"Looking ahead, since electric vehicles are getting more efficient, we hope for increasingly more number of people to be able to afford them," he stated.
Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources Office in Central Java Province Sudjarwanto Dwiatmoko is upbeat about the SPKLU encouraging the public to switch to electrical energy that is more efficient than fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas.
This is in accordance with Presidential Regulation No. 55 of 2019 on the use of electric vehicles in the country, he remarked.
