"Development of the tourist villages are expected to attract foreign tourists," Head of the Bantul Tourism Office Kwintarto Heru Prabowo said here on Sunday.
One of the tourist villages is Wukirsari Village in Imogiri region. It has been known as a production center for traditional hand-made batik using natural dye.
Tourists would have the opportunity to experience the process of making a piece of batik cloth in some units of joglo, Javanese-style hall, in the village.
"I have declared Wukirsari Village as a production center of batik in Yogyakarta and Central Java and we will develop the village further into a world-class tourist destination," he said.
Another region that will be developed into a tourist village is Pajangan Subdistrict. It will focus on cultural-based tourism by exploring its local wisdom.
"In the Pajangan Subdistrict area, we will have cultural-based tourism. I hope that foreign tourists will find something unique that cannot be seen in other places," he added.
Besides offering the beauty of its nature, Pajangan Subdistrict's local culture is also expected to attract the foreign tourists,Prabowo said.
"We can find many regions that offer their natural beauty, but when we are talking about culture, not all of them offer local wisdom as their main attraction," he said.
