People should not harbor concerns. Bulog has ensured that the supply of rice and other food items would always suffice even in case of a sudden sharp increase in demand
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The State Logistics Agency (Bulog) has made assurance of food stocks being adequate as a precautionary measure against a sharp spike in demand.

President Director of Bulog Budi Waseso vouched that the agency had readied sufficient supplies of rice and other foodstuffs to cater to the local demand.

"People should not harbor concerns. Bulog has ensured that the supply of rice and other food items would always suffice even in case of a sudden sharp increase in demand," Waseso noted in a statement here on Monday.

Bulog has ensured the online and offline sales of rice in the domestic market through its partners and outlets across the country, such as Rumah Pangan Kita (Our Food House) and modern retailers.

In a bid to support the government's social and physical distancing measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, Bulog has streamlined its online selling system through iPANGANDOTCOM to assist customers.

"Foodstuffs bought through iPANGANANDOTCOM will be delivered directly to buyers to ensure that the public can obtain food commodities without the need to visit the market," he explained.

Bulog currently has 1.4 million tons of rice stocks in its warehouses, with a capacity of 3.8 million tons. The supply of rice is expected to rise in line with the upcoming peak harvesting season.

The agency has taken precautionary measures against a hike in demand ahead of the Ramadhan fasting month and Eid al-Fitr as well as any untoward incident, so people should not harbor concerns over the adequacy of food stocks, Waseso stated.
