Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of inpatients testing positive for COVID-19 at the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital located in Kemayoran, here, burgeoned to 449 as of Thursday, from 432 on the previous day.

"The inpatients comprised 276 men and 173 women," Brigadier General M. Saleh, deputy of the hospital's Combined Joint Task Force, noted in a statement.

Of the total, 125 were confirmed patients, 242 were patients under surveillance (PDP), and 82 people under monitoring (ODP), rising from 111 positive, 240 PDP people, and 81 ODP as of Wednesday.

Earlier, the Indonesian Task Force for COVID-19 Response appointed Jakarta's Military Commander (Pangdam Jaya) Major General Eko Margiyono as head of the newly set up emergency hospital for treating coronavirus infections in the city.

The hospital is housed in the same building in Kemayoran, Jakarta, which had served to accommodate thousands of athletes during the 2018 Asian Games.

The Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital was officially inaugurated on March 23, 2020.

Maj. Gen. Eko Margiyono revealed that in the event of continued rise in the number of COVID-19 positive cases, two additional towers in the building complex will be turned into treatment rooms.

The government has turned two towers — number six and seven — at the Wisma Atlet complex into a maintenance area. Another tower is being used to provide accommodation to health workers, volunteers, and nurses, while one tower is serving as the center of the task force's operations.

The Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital is steadily improving facilities and resources as a precautionary measure against an increase in the number of COVID-19 patients.
