The provincial administration will make decisions, including the one related to the imposition of large-scale social distancing measures, based on accurate data
Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - The West Java provincial government will pitch large-scale social restrictions and distancing measures to the central government with the help of mapping to show the spread of the coronavirus disease in cities and districts.

"The provincial administration will make decisions, including the one related to the imposition of large-scale social distancing measures, based on accurate data,” West Java Governor M.Ridwan Kamil told journalists in Bandung on Monday.

The unavailability of complete data on the spread of COVID-19 across West Java would make it difficult for the provincial government to argue in favor of imposing large-scale social restrictions and physical distancing measures, Ridwan Kamil noted.

Therefore, the Governor urged city mayors and district heads across West Java to report the results of mass rapid diagnostic tests and help the provincial government prepare a detailed map charting the spread of COVID-19 in their areas.

Commenting on large-scale social restrictions and distancing policies, Willy Aditya, a member of parliament from the National Democratic Party faction, opined that they are yet to be optimally implemented in many parts of Indonesia, including Jakarta.

"In Jakarta, we see the means of public transportation remain crowded with passengers. The physical distancing measures are not being followed as expected," he told journalists after attending a meeting at the Defense Ministry in Jakarta.

Therefore, he suggested that the Indonesian military (TNI) be fully involved in the government's efforts to halt the spread of the new coronavirus disease.

The coronavirus pandemic, which initially broke out in the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of 2019, has spread to various parts of Indonesia. Jakarta is the epicenter of the outbreak in the country.

As of Sunday, Indonesia has reported 2,273 confirmed cases and 198 deaths, while 164 patients have been discharged from hospitals post recovery.

The COVID-19 fatalities include doctors and paramedics who contracted the infection after treating patients diagnosed with the coronavirus disease. (INE)
