"This is an opportunity for us to demonstrate that Jakarta is the first to implement PSBB," Baswedan remarked during a press conference at the Jakarta City Hall on Thursday night.
Baswedan has encouraged those residing within and outside Jakarta to become a resilient and strong community.
"Those in Jakarta are tough and brave people. If they did not dare to face challenges, they would not have come to try their luck in this city," the governor noted.
With such resolve, Baswedan believed that all citizens of Jakarta would be able to tide through the current challenges presented by the virus outbreak.
The COVID-19 pandemic has spread in 33 provinces across Indonesia. With the current implementation of PSBB, Baswedan is optimistic that the people of Jakarta would demonstrate discipline and commitment to get through the next 14 days, from April 10 to 23, 2020.
"Hopefully, other regions would not have to undergo what we have been through. However, we can send across a message to all parts of Indonesia, all nations of the world, that we are not a weak nation but a disciplined nation," the governor remarked.
Baswedan issued Governor Regulation No. 33 of 2020 on PSBB, effective from Friday (April 10).
