Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Government has prepared a medical evacuation protocol for foreign nationals who wish to return to their home countries in wake of the coronavirus, or COVID-19, outbreak.

“(The move has come about) Because many foreign representatives have previously sought medical evacuation protocols for foreigners from Indonesia," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said during a virtual press conference on Friday in Jakarta.

As their host, the foreign minister noted, Indonesia will continue to assist foreigners in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, including through preparation of medical evacuation protocols by the Indonesian Ministry of Health and designation of referral hospitals.

“The Pertamina Hospital is being alerted in case families of (foreign) diplomatic corps need health services," Retno informed.

Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Mahendra Siregar, along with officials from relevant ministries and institutions, had held two video conferences with representatives of foreign governments and international organizations in Jakarta to share the progress of Indonesia’s efforts to tackle COVID-19.

As of April 17, 2020, Indonesia has recorded 5,923 COVID-19 positive cases and 520 fatalities. (INE)
