Jakarta (ANTARA) - The transmission of the novel coronavirus disease in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, has begun to show signs of slowing, chief of the Task Force for the Acceleration of COVID-19 Handling, Doni Monardo, has claimed.



"According to the latest developments, the number of positive cases, especially in Jakarta, has gone down significantly and (the coronavirus curve has showed signs of) flattening,” he said at a virtual press conference on Monday in Jakarta.



Doni, who is also chief of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), made the remarks after participating in a limited meeting on the latest developments in COVID-19 handling, which was led by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and held via video conferencing.



Monardo said the slowdown in the number of coronavirus cases in the capital could be attributed to the implementation of large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), effective from April 10, 2020.



He then appealed to all residents to comply with the large-scale social restrictions, including businesspeople, with the exception of 11 business sectors exempted from PSBB.



Law enforcement officers and regional government officials must also take firm measures against the gathering of people during the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.



Meanwhile, the number of inpatients at the Wisma Atlet (Athlete's Village) Emergency Hospital (RSD) for COVID-19 treatment in Kemayoran increased by 16 to reach 840 on Sunday morning from 824 the previous day.


The patients comprise 508 men and 332 women. Of the total patients, 723 have tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease, 57 are under surveillance (PDP), and 60 are under monitoring (ODP), Yudo Margono, head of the emergency hospital, said in a statement here on Sunday.



The hospital has recorded an additional 22 confirmed cases, taking the total count to 723 from 701 on Saturday, he remarked.



The number of PDP cases has decreased by seven from 64 to reach 57, while ODP cases have increased from 59 to 60.



The Kemayoran Athlete's Village, which was converted into an emergency hospital in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, was officially inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on March 23, 2020. The hospital has the capacity to accommodate 12 thousand people.



Meanwhile, government spokesperson for COVID-19 Response, Achmad Yurianto, reported that 40 more patients recovered from COVID-19 in the country as of noon, April 25, 2020, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,042, while the number of confirmed infections touched 8,607. (INE)
