Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) in Jakarta has readied special rooms to offer treatment to pregnant women exposed to the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), according to Army Chief of Staff General Andika Perkasa.

"Never turn away patients, particularly pregnant women, exposed to COVID-19. Help them on humanitarian grounds. That is RSPAD's principles," he noted in a press statement of the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) on Wednesday.

Perkasa made the statement at a teleconference between him and the hospital’s staff to discuss a progress report on the handling of COVID-19 patients.

RSPAD had been appointed as one of the referral hospitals in Indonesia to handle COVID-19 patients. One of the COVID-19 patients undergoing treatment at the hospital was a pregnant woman, who had given birth to a child.

Perkasa has instructed that RSPAD receive all COVID-19 patients referred to the hospital and offer them the best possible services.

"RSPAD’s principle is that as long as beds and rooms are still available, we will continue to receive patients. Do not reject any of them. In fact, we offer them our best services," he remarked.

In fact, the Army Hospital has tended to a pregnant COVID-19 patient, who delivered a baby, RSPAD Deputy Chief Brigadier General Dr. A. Budi Sulistiya stated during the teleconference.

In response, General Andika has suggested that the hospital use one of the negative pressure rooms to handle pregnant COVID-19 patients by equipping the room with requisite devices.

Several hospitals had turned away the pregnant COVID-19 patient before she was admitted to the Army Hospital. The newborn was safe, while the result of COVID-19 test was awaited.
