Bengkulu (ANTARA) - As many as 38 medical workers in Bengkulu Province have been quarantined at the provincial health training building after their co-workers tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The workers have been quarantined after coming in close contact with two people who tested positive for COVID-19, said head of the Bengkulu Provincial Health Office, Herwan Antoni, here on Thursday.

"They are colleagues of the two positive COVID-19 patients. They worked in the same room, so they had to be quarantined," he explained.

The 38 medical workers will be quarantined for 14 days, in accordance with the COVID-19 handling protocol, he said.

The provincial COVID-19 task force will take swab samples from the medical workers and send them to a laboratory for testing for coronavirus, he said.

"The provincial health training building has been designated for COVID-19 quarantine. The facilities here are already prepared," he added.

In addition to the 38 medical workers, the immediate families of the two COVID-19 positive patients have also been quarantined, he continued.

The Health Office is tracing people who have come in close contact with the two COVID-19 patients, he informed.

The two COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment in an isolation room of the M Yunus General Hospital in Bengkulu, he stated.

The two COVID-19 patients -- a 36-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man -- work for a COVID-19 referral hospital.

The new confirmed cases have brought the total coronavirus case count in Bengkulu to 14, as of Thursday.
