"During this global pandemic situation, PMI is still celebrating the World Red Cross and World Crescent Day 2020. Several virtual events have been held to raise our spirit of togetherness for fighting the deadly virus," Said stated here on Friday.
May 8 — which commemorates the birth anniversary of Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross — is considered a day to reinforce the principles of the humanitarian movement, Said noted.
To mark the day this year, the PMI has launched a social media campaign, themed "Kita Hadapi Bersama" or "We Fight Together”, to highlight support among people under such limiting circumstances, and particularly, to thank medical and humanitarian workers at the vanguard of efforts against the coronavirus outbreak.
All PMI volunteers, as well as society in general, will participate in the movement by joining video-recorded simultaneous hand-clapping as a symbol of their gratitude. The PMI has asked people to record and upload health campaign videos on avoiding COVID-19 infections.
The hashtags #KitaHadapiBersama and #DiRumahSaja (stay at home) will reverberate across social media platforms during the campaign, according to PMI.
Apart from this, the PMI will also hold a great virtual meeting of volunteers, where chairman Jusuf Kalla, who also served as Indonesia’s vice president, will deliver a briefing and speak words of appreciation.
